It emphasizes on enabling inclusive and equitable access to online education for all learners.

The increased adoption of remote learning, particularly highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, underscores the necessity for accessible online education. When online learning is made accessible, it has the potential to be a great equalizer, breaking down geographical barriers, and opening up avenues for quality education to marginalized and underprivileged sections of society.

Individuals with disabilities can particularly benefit from accessible online education. This is achieved through assistive technologies such as alternative text descriptions for images, audio descriptions for videos, closed captions, transcripts, easy-to-navigate websites, and keyboard accessibility. By implementing such features, we ensure that learners with disabilities can actively participate in online learning and gain equal opportunities to succeed.

Accessibility does not stop at individuals with disabilities. It also accounts for students who may face socio-economic challenges. This includes learners from impoverished communities who may not have access to high-speed internet or sophisticated digital devices. Offering low-bandwidth, downloadable content or availability of online courses on public television or radio, for these learners, ensures that they continue learning in spite of the digital divide.

Another aspect to consider is meeting the unique needs of adult learners. Adult learners, who are often balancing multiple roles and responsibilities, require flexible learning schedules. Asynchronous online courses and modules that are accessible at any time align with their needs, thus enabling their continued education.
